Dancer Series

The dancers are inspired by photos I saw of the opening ceremony of the Olympic games. Rituals as old as the games themselves. They are also inspired by community, ritual, women’s circles and their absence in current society.

They are meant to foster a sense of belonging.

They dancers are created to have different body sizes and heights, just like in real life. The original inspiration was from prehistoric dancer figures at the ROM, but also from my elderly greek neighbour dancing traditional greek dances, arms outstretched. There seems an inherent grace and beauty in those dances. A quiet, calming aspect.
